Cleat Selection Advice

If you are looking to hold a rope in place against a load, then a cleat might be the answer. With careful material selection and clever design, Ronstan cleats can be used over a broad range of rope diameters and loads.

When considering the right cleat to your application, there are a few points that are helpful to consider.

Frequency of use

Some cleats are easier and more efficient to use than others and lend themselves to higher frequency operation. Cleat selection might make the system more user friendly, resulting in time savings over the life of your product. The process of passing the rope through the cleat can also generate heat. Higher frequency operation will generate more heat, which may need to be considered in cleat / material selection.

Required load holding

Cleat type and material all have an affect on the ability of the cleat to hold the rope in place and support the rope tension.

Rope diameter and type

Rope type and diameter can also influence the load holding capacity of the cleat. In addition, rope material and construction can both affect how the rope and the cleat will wear over time. SIMPLE BUT EFFECTIVE

Ronstan V-Cleats are simple yet effective rope cleating devices. Manufactured from PTFE impregnated glass and carbon fibre reinforced composite material, V-Cleats are lightweight, corrosion proof and provide superior wear resistance to traditional plastic cleats. Computer generated tooth geometry provides a positive, self-cleating action on the line. For applications where constant line draw-through or high loads are expected, the holding power and opening action of Ronstan cam cleats are recommended.

A comprehensive range of cleats and accessories offering simple, practical solutions for virtually any rope holding application. Aluminium options provide improved heat dissipation (in situations of higher frequency / higher load use), and the hard anodised finish results in reduced wear. T-CLEATS

HARD WEARING

Intensive development efforts have produced this range of cleats that provide unbeatable holding power, yet are designed for easy cleating and releasing of control lines in every application and load condition. Ronstan cam cleats are strong, light and corrosion free. The unique tooth profile and cam geometry are designed to grip without damaging the rope. A multi-coil spring recessed in the upper part of the cam generates near constant torque. This constant torque ensures secure cleating of even the smallest lines with minimal abrasion or rope wear and low line entry and exit efforts. T-Cleats have tough glass fibre reinforced cams providing outstanding value for most cleating applications.

ALLOY CAM CLEATS

STRONG & LOW PROFILE

Sharing many design features with the T Cleat, Alloy Cam Cleats are built for ultimate durability where high wear and high loads are encountered. Cams are hot-forged and hard anodised aluminium, for maximum strength and corrosion resistance. Ronstan Alloy Cam Cleat models are available in sizes small and medium. The medium cleat is built on an aluminium base for maximum rigidity whilst the small cleat has a composite base for an optimum blend of lightness and durability.

C-CLEATS™

STRONG & LOW PROFILE

The lightweight ultra rigid carbon fibre composite cams of the C-Cleat are corrosion free, suffer virtually no tooth wear and are non-abrasive to rope. The base is produced from long fibre reinforced polymer, a result of advanced composite technology providing metal replacement performance.

CAM CLEAT ACCESSORIES

Ronstan has a selection of accessories specifically designed for our cam cleat range to help control the rope position, improve ergonomics, and make them easier to use.

HORN CLEATS

Horn cleats rely on tension in the rope, rather than friction between the rope surface and the cleat to support the load. However, they are more time consuming to fix and remove the rope than other cleat types. They are most suitable for applications where, the rope is detached less frequently, or where the cleat needs to support static loads for extended periods.

Ronstan Horn cleats are moulded from UV stabilised Nylon, with 2 x countersunk holes to allow attachment to a rigid structure.
